Green Valley Ranch – China Spice

We went to Green Valley Ranch on Thanksgiving for dinner. Arrived just before 5pm. Would have gone earlier but I was feeling a little ill and just sat around the house until then.

We were going to the Cafe where they had a special Thanksgiving dinner. Passed the Buffet along the way and it was overflowing with people waiting to get in. Thery were beyond all the ropes and into the casino. My guess would be an hour and a half wait.

It looked like the cafe would be a better choice. Turned out they took our name and said to check back in 45 minutes and they’d let us know where we stood. Noticed that people were checking back and getting into a small line so I would guess we were looking at 1 hour total.

We decided to walk around and check out some of the other restaurants. First one we came to was China Spice. And from what we could tell we could get right in. So we did. In addition to their regular menu you could also get a turkey dinner. We opted for Chinese.

We had about the best chinese food we ever had. Hot and Sour soup is one of our favorites and many restaurants don’t do a good job with it. And at $5.95 a bowl it seemed quite pricey. But we decided to get it and it was outstanding. Theirs is a vegetable hot and sour with all the normal ingrediants except pork.

We also got an order of Pot Stickers (aka Peking Raviolis). They were either 5.95 or 6.95 and an order contained 8 of them. They were on the small side but again they were outstanding. Absolutely the best we ever had.

Main course consisted of General Taos Shrimp and Kung Pow Chicken. The shrimp had a sauce quite similar to General Gaus Chicken and had at least a dozen of the largest shrimp I’ve ever gotten at at Chinese restaurant. The sauce was slightly spicey and sweet. And it was also outstanding. As for the Kung Pow Chicken, it was ok but we were so full from everything else they we hardly ate any and since we were flying home late Friday morning we did not take it home. But what little of it we ate was just ok. I think the Shrimp was so delicious that almost anything else would have been balnd compared to it.

White Steamed rice was included and was excellent. The texture was perfect and not sticky.

Prices were decent. The 2 main courses were in the 11.95 – 13.95 range and the serving sizes were very large.

Definitely on our list for future meals. Probably a stop on every trip.

I totally agree that China Spice is an excellent restaurant, Don.

Our usual meal there is: lettuce wraps, 1/2 Peking duck, green beans with xo
    sauce, yang chau fried rice.

Pick up the phone and call us on one of your trips and you will eat there
for free. We have way too many casino points to ever use them all ourselves.

Ive seen David Berman on American Casino many times. He is a regular there and is treated very well. He even knows the secret of Michael Tata’s death.
