Keeping your FEET happy in Las Vegas
Ok, this isn’t the most pleasant subject known to man but it is CRITICALLY important in L.V. Like most I’m on my feet A LOT in vegas, and like many I sleep sporadically to none while on vacation. I try and wind down in the room, and before long I’m lacing up the shoes and I’m in the casino again! I sit behind a desk 24/7, and then I subject myself to endless Vegas walks.
The problem is after a week in Vegas my feet are toast. I’ve tried taking an amazing amount of socks/shoes and change them often. I’ve tried the cheapo foot powders with no luck. In short my feet, I’m sorry to admit, just sweat after hours couped up in shoes and after all the walking they turn into prunes. After a week I’m toast, and sitting with my feet up is almost as fun as a VP Royal Flush, which by the way I’ve YET to hit!!! I’ve hit several on my home computer but never-ever for real, and trust me I’ve practiced and paid my dues in Vegas. I’m due and hopefully feet willing this will be the trip!!(?)
Without getting too graphic, if anyone has the ultimate footcare solution I’d be grateful. There has to be some magic balm or technique. Again, I’m deadly serious and this isn’t a joke posting. Others must have whimpy feet?…

Yes, Cinci. Get a good pair of sandals and ditch the socks. Feet are supposed to stay dry. Dry feet don’t exist inside socks and shoes.

Great advice for summer, but not sure about late December (?) It gets up to 55F during the day on average right? I’m from the midwest and we call that cold… I remember the last time I was there in Dec, I ran from casino door opening to opening. I almost dived head first into the Flamingo air curtains guarding the doors. Nothing like that
warm blast of air on a cold vegas night.
Keeping the feet dry is probably the key to my dilemma. I’ll pack some sandals and will try using them, but I’m not promising anything.

Hello Cinci….
I don’t have the problems that you described, but I do have other issues with my feet while I’m in Vegas or anywhere else where I am doing more than my usual amount of walking. I empathize with you as I know that if your
feet are giving you problems, Vegas isn’t much fun.
I’m assuming that your socks are somewhat heavy cotton socks (vs. acrylic) that can absorb a lot of the moisture.
With that aside, I just ran a quick search and found this page:

I have no idea how well this product works, but since it’s not horribly expensive, it might be worth a try. If you do decide to try it, I hope it turns out to be your magic balm.
Have a great time and get that elusive VP Royal Flush!!

I feel your pain. I am on my feet all day long walking around, and all night playing craps! Maybe I ought to change my game, but I love it too much. But my problem is one of plantar fasciitis, and PAIN not SWEAT.
Barring springing for orthotics, my podiatrist friend recommends inserts made by “Superfeet,” which can be bought online and have done me some good.
BTW, as to some of your other answers, I can’t understand how anyone can walk around without socks. And as an aside, Lamisil probably is doing handflips over these sockless people walking barefoot through security at the airports!

There are moisture wicking socks that moves the moisture away from your feet. I think cool max is one of the brands. Camping/athletic kinds of stores would carry them. Also, brands like Merell make shoes that are ventilated you could check out that kind of thing as well as the socks at Zappos.com. There are comfortable sandals that are made for walking, with good arch support and straps to keep them secure.

Get wicking sock liners. If you can’t find them where you are, take a ride out to The District at Green Valley Ranch and go to REI.
Hikers always wear two pairs of socks, partly to avoid blisters.

This subject reminded me of my early years coming to Las Vegas. I made a big mistake of buying a pair of boots (not cowboy just casual boots). This was in the late 70’s. It didn’t take long for the toes and feet to get really sore. Ended up searching out a shoe store and they sold me these shoes made from Deer skin. They were so comfortable and soft on the top and sides.
Also in those days we would dress up at night and would have dress shoes. And would get a shoe shine especially at the Tropicana where they had an excellent guy in the Men’s room who would slap the wax directly on his hands and rub it into the shoes. Then he would shine them. I was there one day with a friend and had the Deer shoes on and my friend was getting the shoe shine. I thought to myself, hum if I get these shined it would be like getting a foot massage. So I did and it was the greatest shoe shine massage of all time. I wonder if there are any shoe shiners in the bathrooms anymore?
