New Years in Vegas Tips

My girlfriend and I are thinking of spending New Years eve in Las Vegas this year. I’m aware of the higher travel and hotel rates, though I’ve never been there at this time of year before. So putting that aside, what else could we expect as far as crowds, table minimums, getting cabs, and the like? Is it a nightmare? And how cold is it typically?
This would be her first time in Vegas, I have been a few times before, so I generally know my way around and such. But I’ve always gone late Spring when rates are lower, temps are higher, and crowds are less.

So I guess I’m just wondering what we could expect, and if it would be worth going now to experience a LV New Years (we’re still young and unmarried, no kids), or if for her first Vegas experience I should take her later in the Spring when it’s a bit less hectic. We both like to gamble, but not high stakes ($5/$10 blackjack, for example, is our bag normally). Also want to do the strip tour so she can see all the casinos inside and out, etc.

Our plan would be a long weekend, from the 30th through the 2nd of January.

Would certainly appreciate any advice from those who have been there this time of year!

Thanks!

Brad

Well to be sure it will be the busiest extended weekend of the year. High room rates, high airfares, high table minimums. Crowded restaurants/buffets.

But it will be party time and probably a good time for all.

You might consider Martin Luther weekend. Certainly lower in price and less crowded. Another good time is (usually) the weekend after the Superbowl. And one more in warmer weather is Easter weekend.

Yeah, what everyone else said, there are several parking lots on the Arizona side, as you go up the switchbacks there are more lots to park in (lots of dam lots!) and the views are great from up there. If you don’t have time to
see the dam, just turn on the tap in your sink at the hotel and you can see the same water.

I-15 South, 215 East to 95/515 South thru Boulder City and watch for the signs…can’t miss it. Also as you drive along, check out the construction for the new dam bypass road they’re building, it’s pretty awesome. I like doing the ride on my motorcycle since it’s more scenic that way. You can rent a motorcycle at Las Vegas Harley-Davidson on Sahara and Eastern (east of the Strip) for about $120 a day…I’m off on a tangent as usual here….I’ll shut up now
