Slots Hosts
I’ve been overdosing myself with information for my upcoming trip to Las Vegas starting Dec. 25th. I find tons of conflicting information regarding slot hosts. Can someone tell me about slot hosts? I’d like to introduce myself to one, but also want to save myself embaressment. What level of play does it pay to talk to a slot host? We generally play slots.
I’m mostly looking for better deals in the future, such as free rooms or better dicounted roooms than the internet mailings offer. I’m putting out just under $1,000 for 2 rooms for 4 nights at the Mirage, and think I should do better. The first night we won’t even get there until after midnight, but are still paying for the full day. Any thoughts on the host situation?

If you haven’t read them already, may I suggest Jean Scott’s two Frugal Gambler books (The Frugal Gambler, and More Frugal Gambling). These should answer many of your questions.
Also, it doesn’t hurt to email or call the casino / hotel you’re staying at, and ask them the same question.

I’ve read that casinos sometimes figure comps at around 30% of their profit from you, so you’d have to lose about $3,400 for them to comp a $1,000 hotel bill. (Typically they don’t tally up your actual loses; they just calculate a statistical average loss based on the number of hours you play, the size of your average bet, and the statistical edge
they have in the game you’re playing.)
